10 Earthy Modern Living Room Ideas

The most beautiful earthy modern living room ideas

Lately, my living room rug has been one of my favorite things to look at, if I may say. I just like the way the neutrals that make up my whole living room decoration come together to so well, each color enhances the overall tone nicely.

I am honestly please by the earthy feel all this brings, especially in the afternoons as the sun sets, It really is amazing because now the afternoon sun meet the solf clays, the oats and the sand that make up my living room. It’s so amazing i must say.

As a mom, my home needs feel homey because it’s my safe space, it’s where I get to relax, think and just chill after a long day. Nothing beats a home that feels so good because this is a place where we crash after the school runs and a place where I can finally get a moment of peace and calmness after putting my daughter to bed.

I can’t believe I used to think that “elegant” meant not touching anything in your home but I’ve learned that an elegant relatable home is all all about the vibe. Elegent home is all about creating a space  that looks high-end, expensive yet a place where can actually kick off your shoes and just relax!

If you’re trying to updgrade your space and you want a living room that speaks  luxury with serious comfort, the earthy modern aesthetics is the trend right now and you should definitely try it. To be honest, I am hooked to this style.

1. Let’s Start with the magic of Warm Neautrals

I am so over those cold, white colors we used to see everywhere years ago. I’m talking about the whites tha make you feel like you’re sitting in a dentist’s office. I remember back then in high school, i used to attend this class and the room was empty and painted white, I hated the place. It was so cold and I immediadelly knew that plain white will not have a place in my house, especially the walls! Now, insteasted of that boring whit, go for a loving, warm “Sand,” “Oatmeal,” and “Mushroom.”

When you layer these tones, immediately the room feels expensive yet cozy, with just those tones.

So for starters, I would go for a plush sofa in a nice soft oatmeal performance fabric (simple because, if you have kids things are a bit different, white silk and kids don’t mix well!) These colors are a great foundation, easy going and warm. The nice thing about changing these pieces is because you don’t have to spent a lot of money repaniting your whole place.

Here’s the tip: Just go for the linen cushion covers in these colors. Here’s the thing, linen is your best friend if you have kids, it’s durable, it’s so easy to wash and ofcourse it has that “perfectly imperfect” texture that adds up an instant elegance you need your space.

2. Now let’s bring in the Organic Textures

the earthy modern living room texture that blends well together

So when your room is neutral, always try to bring in different textures so that the room doesn’t look too plain or too boring just try to mix it up.  so just think jute,  and nice reclaimed wood and of course stone.

I honestly don’t want my house to look like some cold showroom somewhere, it should be warm and homey. You want your house to feel like people actually leave there and it’s comfortable because it’s a home not just the house.

Let’s move on to putting a soft wool rug on top of a nice chunky jute,  this look is amazing.  I like the fact that, it’s super grounded, it’s stylish and also practical too,  especially for high traffic areas in your house. Now bring in some wooden elements maybe a raw-edge coffee table or a just a simple oakshelving.  These “imperfections” in the wood makes the space feel  earthy and  and real, a  home.

Black frames for your wall decor always stands out

Instead of just simple bright colors in your face, here I’m honestly feeling abstract lline art and charcoal sketches.  This is a great way to show your personality without chaos and too much clutter for your visual space and piece. I’ll also go for frames in light oak or cool matte black to give things a little bit of a modern feel.

ADD personal note:  I recently curated a small corner with the sketches that actually remind me of our nice family trips.  I like the fact that they are just neutral and of course they blend in nicely with the walls but at the same time they carry so much meaning and memories. And of course that’s the “relatable” part of elegance in your home so make sure that your Decor also tells your story.

4. Statement lighting, also known as the “jewelry” of the room

Go for a nice lighting when decorating your room, it's either a hit of miss with lighting.

Lighting is everything in your house, it’s called the jewellery of the room for a reason.  Let me tell you something, if you want to improve your home, and elevate your neutral space make sure that your lighting fixtures are top notch. They say go big or go home,  lighting will definitely improve your space and make it look expensive. I would go for an oversized paper lanterns or black sconces because they provide a focal point that keeps the eye moving.  They are not expensive but I’m telling you right now,  your space will be elevated.

At night, I never turn on the overhead light. I just rely on the floor lamps with those warm-toned bulbs to keep that earthy, the sunset glow going even after the sun has a actually gone down.

5. Let’s incorporate “living” decor

Your home can’t just have the earthy tones without having some actual earth. Let me tell you the secret ingredient to making your neutrals pop, plants!  Having a good-sized Olive Tree is a terracotta pot or even just a small bunch of dried eucalyptus on the mantelpiece is just the simple way of adding a fresh  green touch your room needs.  It’s really that simple.

But let me be honest with you, I’m still figuring out this whole thing of plants and having green in my living room. That’s why I like the dried florals or high-quality faux olive trees just to add a bit of greenish my living room.

6. The great power of scents and sound

The good looking living rooms are not just pretty to look at. They have a welcoming vibe you cannot describe when you step inside, it’s different, the  warmth! You just wanna be that room all the time. Keep things simple,  have a sandalwood or amber candle burning. This way it makes the space feel super luxe, as if you’re in a high-end Spa or something even if you’ve got barbie dolls hiding under the couch, trust me you will not feel it. It’s so relaxing and that’s all you need.

7. A good functional storage for big and busy families

Functional storage is a must when it comes to living room decor

Actually your home doesn’t have to be that big or busy, but having a good functional storage helps a lot! It keeps everything in order when. A when you talk about a “mom-friendly” living room, let’s be real here, we have to talk about the mess, everyday like  90% of the time. You also want to maintain the elegant look your home  so having a hidden storage  that nobody  knows about helps a lot.

I would go for large woven baskets for the kids’ toys and blankets ofcourse. From outside, it looks like a beautiful texture, but on the inside, you’ll find a mess and chaos but we all know why you need this and it’s not going to ruin your decor. This makes  your space  super tidy and the living room is always clean, you can literally put the mess away in two minutes.

8. A mix of vintage and modern

Now let’s go hunting for a cool vintage stoneware and brass candlesticks at your local decor shop, you can even find this at the markets of course. Mixing something old with a clean modern couch gives a house a home soul. Have you ever felt like yes decor is complete but there’s something missing, then this! Try this hack, modern and vintage works all the time.

9. A treat for the windows, let the light in

Make sure you have natural lighting to elavate your decor

When you go for the for the earthy vibe and you’ve decided on this style, natural light should be your secrete weapon. I like the sheer linen curtains  that allow the light to filter through nicely.  This creates those beautiful shadows on the walls,it’s like the shadows are paid actors for your decor. If you want some privacy, you can just get a double rod and put a heavier, neutral-colored curtain on the outside. That way you get in the light and your privacy.

10. For your final touch, comfort is the Queen

When you get right down to it, a nice  stylish elegant home should be comfortable and that should be your priority. I always make sure that I have a few soft throws and that the seating in my living room is actually comfortable and relaxing.  I want to be in my living room all the time, a living room shouldn’t feel like a room that shouldn’t be used or touched then if you’re not going to use it, then it shouldn’t be there in the first place.

FAQs: You may have these questions

The first question you may ask: I’m on the hunt for a top nice child-friendly fabric that still works great with nice neutral home decor, so how can I go about this? I always go for what we call the “performance” fabrics or slipcovered sofas. Iff you are someone who wants that fancy textured look, then check out the linen-look polyesters, they are great and beautiful because they repel spills.

So, you might be wondering or even thinking about this this question as well: How do I make sure that my neutral room doesn’t look too “blah” or even boring if I can put it that way?  The number one secret for keeping your home neautral tones warm in your room is simple. To get the beautiful but that warmth, go for the neutral colors like your creamy creams, beige and tans but the the ones with the beautiful red or yellow undertones as they are the key to a warm beautiful neutral home. Just try to stay away from the cooler shades, especially those blue-ish greys.

On that note…

Don’t make your earthy living room decor boring. Make sure its “liveable” and accommodate your kids and comfortability. Having an a relatable elegant home with kids shouldn’t be difficult. Just be smart about. I hope the hacks above works well for your space.
